Carrie Stringer, LMHCA

I’m from the Midwest and found my way to the beautiful state of Washington in 1994.

For 35 years, I’ve worked with trauma-affected youth and families—including youth orphaned by war in Lake Atitlan, Guatemala. I work with trauma’s many presentations: Anxiety, depression, dissociation, inward and external reenactment behaviors, eating disorders, body dysmorphia, and the overwhelming need to avoid trauma reminders.

I believe that all behavior is an attempt to meet a need. While the methods we use to meet those needs aren’t always ideal, the need itself is valid. This perspective allows me to support clients in identifying unmet needs and viewing behavior through a lens of curiosity, not shame.

My therapeutic approach is eclectic, drawing from modalities such as

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Somatic practices
  • Emotional literacy
  • Creative expression

I also enjoy exploring what our unconscious might be communicating through dreams, art, and behavioral patterns.

I work with individuals ages 13 and up, as well as parents of younger children. Whether supporting someone through trauma, emotional growth, or identity development, I strive to create a compassionate, judgment-free space for exploration and healing.

One of my guiding beliefs comes from one of my favorite bears, Winnie-The-Pooh:
“It never hurts to keep looking for sunshine.”
